Finalizing 0.82 for General Release

Posted in

Ok guys, I've been working for the past week to get version 0.82 of the engine ready for release.

While the forum post Engine 0.82 - Bi-directional serial communication covers the changes in detail, I want to make a list of a few things left to be done, and ask if anyone has any objections to it being released.

What's left to go:

  • Documentation Update
    • Done - everything but electronics schematics
  • Add serial communication time-out
    • If a calling application sends incomplete serial data, engine is in error state and cannot operate correctly. Add timer to discard command if it is not completed within a set time, allowing normal operation to continue
  • Fix an issue where camera enable actions are not working properly from time keyframes

Can anyone think of anything else it absolutely must have?

Can anyone think of a reason not to release it?

All-in-all, this version is easier to compile than 0.81, solves some major bugs in 0.81, and adds a ton of new and essential functionality. I don't want to keep it in dev forever, and having people download it from svn instead of zips results in more support requests than anything else on my end.

If there are no objections, I'd like to release it tonight or tomorrow. I know that's kind of short notice, but I can work in any remaining issues with quick patches if need be after release.

Ok, everything is done and tested, except for the schematics (easy task to be completed tonight).

So, unless anyone objects - I'm going to make 0.82 "production" tonight.
