Hardware so far.

Hi gang.

I am wondering if I am on the right track with this.

I have a couple of Arduino's around I can use, one Nano with 168 and a Duemilanove with 328.

I bought 3 Steppers from SmartFun

Along with 3 EasyDrives

I tried one of the steppers today with the Arduino and some basic high low code and it works pretty well.

Would these steppers be powerful enough to control a 5D mark II with lens included.

Dolly is pretty much finished and what will be needed is some gearing to get things running.

Are there any time plans when some hardware will be published, what to buy and what not?

Hi Olihar! The motors should

Hi Olihar!

The motors should work well, but it all depends on what your gearing is going to be. In a dolly, you should be able to get away with either R&P, or any style of belt-drive easily. What type of drive train are you planning on running?

We're definitely working on plans - I posted a timeline of what you can expect in this thread: Are there plans around somewhere?

Gearing and method to drive

Gearing and method to drive it is something I have to look more into, I would like to see some examples and then go from there what the best way would be.

We'd recommend either a

We'd recommend either a rack-and-pinion drive or a belt-drive that doesn't use a loop belt. We'll be showing some examples of these soon, but they tend to be the easiest to use, service, and extend in the field.
