Creating Your Own System for Personal or Commercial Use
So you'd like to build your own system based on the Reference Design? That's great! As long as you don't sell, rent, or lease what you build, you can do it without any restrictions. Yes, you may use such a system to provide on-hire and professional services without any constraint. We do, however, view "Rental" equipment the same as for "Commercial Sale," please see the section below for more information.
Creating Your Own System for Commercial Sale
You are welcome to create an Refeence Design-based system for sale! The more people use our software, the happier we are. You do not need to pay us anything to create a system based on the Reference Design.
All we ask is that you honor the software and hardware licenses when you do. This, of course, includes providing the full source to anyone you make the code available to (even under rental terms) who wishes to receive it, and that if you share your hardware modifications (based on the reference designs) that you understand that they must be shared under the same terms as the original.
Attributions for Hardware Designs Under Creative Commons
All hardware designs released under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 license allow you to modify, remix, share, do with as you please, provided that you appropriately attribute them. Proper attribution would be the inclusion of the following statement: "This work is derived from designs provided by the OpenMoCo community, available at openmoco.org."
